Wilson-Hurd decorates, forms and fabricates in-mold decorated inserts (IMD) for a variety of industries, including automotive, appliance and cosmetic.

A flat polycarbonate sheet is printed on the back (second surface) for protection of the graphics. Each sheet is then corner drilled by an automated hole drilling machine that utilizes an optical eye to automatically position the sheets for drilling.

These corner-drilled holes are used to align the flat sheet onto the bed of the AccuForm® for forming. The next step is to die-cut the parts. During this phase, a sampling of the parts is taken and measured using a Micro-Vu® to verify that the graphics are tightly registered to the mechanics.

Automotive IMD parts are also inspected with a spectroradiometer to ensure that backlighting is diffused properly during day and night lighting.
